In 2020, the Department of Public Works transferred to the Archives a card catalog index of ordinances related to the streets of New Orleans. These ordinances include street openings, closings, extensions, renaming, dedications, and more. The City Archives presents a digital, searchable version of this index. Index cards are organized alphabetically by street name,  and were scanned as searchable pdfs. Click the desired street letter and perform a ctl+F search for the street name.

Researchers should note that optimal character recognition is imperfect and may not always produce search results. If you can’t find a street name, try manually scrolling through the letter index. Additionally, this index is by no means exhaustive and researchers should consult additional resources such as the newspaper for more information regarding City Council ordinances. Ordinances are available on microfilm by appointment in the City Archives.
