Researchers should note that some criminal cases were tried in First District Court; separated records from First District Court are indexed with Civil Courts.
Researchers should also review the Additional Criminal Court Records that were separated from their court of origin. These are indexed and housed separately from the Stray Court Records and include Police Courts, Justices of the Peace, and Recorders Courts.

| First Recorder's Court | 1457 | State vs C. W. Johnson | 1890 | Several contracts between the Crescent City Clothing Club and named individuals. The Club was to include twenty people who paid $1 each week and, in return, were to receive a suit of made to order clothes each week. Also included are several slips identifying recipients of suits and inviting prospective members to visit them and gauge their satisfaction. Also included are several numbered coupons, each with a contract number indicated. The contracts identify the members and give the occupation and address of each. Accompanied by an envelopr marked, "Evidence, State vs C. W. Johnson, obtaining money, etc." We know from newspapers that Johnson was manager of the Club. | Fourth District Recorder | 2702 | State of Louisiana vs Jean Marie Barthel | 1853 | He was accused of keeping a coffee house and billiard table on Magazine between St. Mary and St. Andrew without a city license. Three witnesses are named, with a note that they were from the Magazine Market, but no testimony is present in the record. The Recorder sent the matter up to the First District Court. Massey, #1219_" Includes items from the Pullman's Palace Car Co.--passenger checks, porter checks, occupancy reports, and form no. 19s. Massey is indicated on the items as a conductor. The items have information about berths, including names of some passengers, on routes between St. Louis and New Orleans during 1889-1891. | Criminal District Court | 1896 | Act of sale, tax bills, tax receipts, and a fire insurance policy for a house on Force Street between Elysian Fields and Frenchmen Streets. Jane Holloway was the owner. Notes on the documents indicate that they were filed as evidence by the state. They were signed by A. J. Desmond, clerk of Criminal District Court. When she picked the coin up, Morrell claimed that it was his and brutally assaulted and struck the child. He included details of his investigation of the fire, including the fact that Deron had insured his furniture for $7400 when Youenes considered it to be worth no more than $4000. A physical description of John is included. | Criminal District Court | 1496 | State vs J. P. Wall | 1891 | Includes documents from First Recorder's Court #1523, State vs James A. Speirs. Speirs was accused by Wall of malicious trespass in the town of Tangipahoa and with fleeing from the town to avoid prosecution. The affidavit in that case shows that Speirs was discharged. Also included is a telegram from Wall asking the Chief of Police in Tangipahoa to hold Speirs (as an absconding debtor) until he (Judge Wall) arrives by train. Apparently, the documents were used as evidence in prosecuting Wall for false imprisonment and perjury (they were in an envelope marked, "#1496, J. P.
