Welcome to Our New Website

Letter from the Director

The City Archives & Special Collections is excited to share  our new website with you. This has been a two year labor of love, sweat, and sometimes tears by Archives staff.

The Archives’ website and the Library’s website have been a prominent fixture since 1995. Both original websites were managed by the diligent work and interest of former Archives staff Irene Wainwright and Wayne Everard.  The Archives continued to maintain and update both sites until 2013.  I personally learned how to code and create web content on the job from Irene.

A new website for the Archives has always been in our future plans, and due to timing and staff, we were now able to make it a reality.  In addition to our new website, the City Archives & Special Collections has gained a new domain name to more accurately reflect our collection and mission.  Our website is now located at nolacityarchives.org

The Archives staff reviewed the wealth of information we had available and sought to bring it to you in a new, updated, and reimagined format.  Don’t worry, many of your favorite features have transitioned to the new site, though you will see them in an updated digital format.

You will also see that our collections are presented in a very different way than they were previously. This new system allows us to bring you core information, more connections among materials, and enhanced findability.  There are many new features that are available now and more will be coming in the future that we hope make the user experience even better.

As we move into this new phase, please be patient while we make adjustments and work out some kinks. We hope you enjoy the new site and the new finding aids, and let us know if you have any questions.

All of the Archives staff past and present played a role in making this happen.  I want to recognize staff members Brittanny Silva, Andrew Mullins, Amy DeNisco, and Amanda Fallis for their focus and work on this project.
